Santa Fe Railroad - Verona Depot
Verona, Illinois


The images below where taken at the Santa Fe Depot in Verona Illinois by Roderick Irwin of Chicago Illinois. Roderick was said to have lost a few fingers in a chemistry accident while he was attending the University of Illinois. After the accident he dropped out of college and taught himself morse code to keep him busy. He later became a telegraph oerator for the railroad. Roderick was a operator at the Verona Depot, he took these series of photos and wrote the letter to Mark S.

" Dear Mark,
Here are long last are the Verona, Illinois photos I promised you.
Sorry for the delay - have had them for some time, just never got
around to getting them off to you. This plant, of course, is the type
of ground - level of 'horizontal leadout' plant shown in the system
standards for depots with large bays to accomadate interlocking machine.
The floor of the bay was a couple of feet higher than the floor of the
building & reached by a couple of steps.
