Project #0748 - Restoring US&S Electronically Locked Semaphore Indicator and Circuit Controller
Page 1

I bought this off eBay a while back, actually a friend outbid me and I contacted the seller to see if they had another and sure enough they did. I bought this one which said SIGNAL as the one on eBay was for a SWITCH. I guess these would normally be paired up for a siding. I found the information in the Union Switch and Signal Automatic Catalogue from the 1920's. It's Plate G-193 which is called Electronically Locked Semaphore Indicator and Circuit Controller. Both the ones on eBay did not have the front glass nor did they have the semaphore in the middle. A friend told me about a place that had a bunch of signal stuff in the basement that had been flooded about six times and told me to take a look. When I went there I found several of these in the basement and they were rusted closed and did not move. The good thing was they had the semaphore blade in the middle. I worked a trade and took two home. The plan was to only try and fix one I got from the flood and the other would be taken apart and the blade removed and installed in the one I got off eBay. After opening them and soaking them a few days the controllers still did not budge. So I figured the project would be just removing the one blade and putting it in mine. I did that but in doing that I messed the blade up and must resolder it or glue it in place. It works somewhat now but it’s in need of a repair. The other units will be parted out IF I can get anything else off them. They are quite rusty.

Unit right out of the box. Flooded units.
Rusty?? Semaphore parts. Flooded units.
It works! Lever in the locked position.
Bad units. Junk units.
