Project #0747 - Restoring GRS Type "2A" Dwarf Semaphore
Page 1

This project will be fixing up a General Railway Signal Co. Type 2A Dwarf Semaphore. It runs off 110VDc and only displays red and amber colors. The blade is the porcelain paint, it looks to have been bent and thats why some is missing. The lenses were not it the semaphore when I got it so I cut some GSI lenses down to fit. I am currently working on getting another blade with lenses. I used a 3$ full wave bridge rectifier to produce the 110VDC, I will soon add a 1:1 transformer. I currently have a old light bulb I found at Ranken installed that is 110V and 16 CP (Candle Power). The plan is to install this in the front yard near the deck. I got this in a trade from a collector in Illinois.

Back of the semaphore. Motor door open. Name plate on motor. Cam contacts, as I got it.
Semaphore powered up. Gear box open. Light socket. Rectifier to make the 110VDC.
Old bulb installed. Spectical installed. Lenses were cut to size, not originals.
Back cover installed.
Old light bulb, 16 Candle power. New light cover installed. Brass strap from cam shaft.
Moved a contact set over. Cam shaft contacts removed. New contact set installed. Temporary copper inplace.
Contact worked, went to green. Realigned were yellow stops. Broken back plate. Clear.
Restricting. Stop. Finished Product!
