Project #0732 US&S Subway Signal Restoration

Step 1- Unload the pallet from the truck to the shop. The driver was not happy when I told him the skidder with forks was not at the shop. Luckly the skidder with a bucket was so he just dropped the pallet into the bucket.

Step 2- Some of the signals were broken so Julie sent me parts to some to fix the broken ones. Here comes the fun part of getting them apart.

Step 4- The lamp assemblies, cleaning them and sanding down all the rust spots. These are about the easiest thing to fix up. Only one part needs to be painted and thats the outer lens ring.

Step 5- The fun part! Painting, everyone knows that paint is the best part of a project. Actually its not that fun. We use a primer black oil base paint. Works great and stops the rust, in the rain the water slides right off. This is first coat of paint.

Step 6- Was the second coat of paint.

Step 7- Was after the second coat of paint, to start to assemble the body parts. Then go around and touch up all the spots we missed. After thinking it over I started to think about combining the heads. I wanted to see how it would look so I set it up without being finished. Well it looked great untill it fell into the wall. Fun Fun, now I have to repaint the signal and YES to Mike it is Cast Iron and is Very Heavy. I do know that. Jake and I made a wood base and used a 4x4 to hold the signal upright. I have made this base for all of our signals; H-2, TP-5, GRS G, and now these. The person in the pictures at the computer desk is jake, he is the other owner of ZCG Utility Scrap. He does not do much on the signal end but help with the heavy stuff.
